Course Descriptions


We conduct our training at your location or our facility to meet your schedule. Each course can be conducted for up to ten students with one instructor. Normally we do not exceed a student to teacher ratio of ten as we believe the students training benefits decrease. Therefore we provide an additional instructor for each set of ten students. Dynamic Balancing (in-situ):

This seminar focuses on the practices and principles of dynamic balancing and is replete with practical hands-on demonstration. It is neither instrumentation nor software- specific and, therefore, applies to anyone wishing to learn or review practical field balancing procedures. Strong emphasis is placed upon the use of vector solutions to many types of dynamic balancing problems and weight corrections.

 

Day 1


  • Introduction
    Causes of imbalance, types of imbalance, effects of change in speed, vibration vs. imbalance.

  • Balancing I

  • Single plane balancing, balancing workshop I, balance weight calculation, safe trial weight, balance weight splitting, combining, moving effect, change in radius, center hung and overhung rotors, balancing workshop II.

 

Day 2


  • Balancing II Static-couple balancing, rigid and flexible rotor conditions, high and low speed balancing considerations, balance tolerances, slow roll measurement, balance and vibration standards and tolerances.

  • Balancing III Two plane dynamic balancing.

  • Balancing IV

  • No phase method of balancing, balancing workshop III.

 

Machinery Vibration Analysis

This seminar is designed as an accelerated 3-day course designed to quickly immerse the trainee into the most critical aspects of machinery vibration analysis. The course is only 3 days long but it contains most of the content typically associated with Level I and Level II training. Numerous demonstrations and many real data examples are provided using multi-channel instrumentation.

 

Day 1


  • Introduction to Predictive Condition Monitoring
    RCM overview and the role of condition monitoring.

  • Fundamentals of Vibration I
    Excitation and restraining forces, frequency, period, and phase relationships.

  • Workshop Application
    Machinery vibration demonstration.

  • Fundamentals of Vibration II
    Amplitude units, peak, RMS, average, and peak-peak amplitudes, frequency and time domains.

  • Data Presentation Formats
    Time waveforms, frequency spectra, frequency and order normalized cascades, peak hold, Bodé, polar, shaft position, and orbital displays.

 

Day 2


  • Data Collection & Measurement Parameters
    Frequency range selection criteria, frequency resolution, cursor types (hardware and software), scaling, filtering, AC/DC coupling, aliasing, windows and weighting, and averaging dynamic range.

  • Transducers
    Sensor units, power requirements, frequency and amplitude response, sensor mounting, sensor selection, measurement standards.

  • Workshop Application
    Effects of frequency resolution, filtering, averaging, amplitude units.

  • Vibration Severity
    Industry standards & tolerances, machinery type, mounting and height considerations, shaft vs. casing measurements, narrowband, broadband, alarm band, percent change.

  • Machinery Diagnostics I
    Imbalance sheaves and drive belts, looseness, and misalignment.

 

Day 3


  • Machinery Diagnostics II
    Rubs, bearings, gears, couplings, resonance, electrical, vane/blade pass, rotor bar pass, blade rate, cavitation, whirl, whip, sum & difference frequencies.

  • Workshop Application
    Real time vibration analysis of machine faults.

  • Low Frequency Amplitude
    Dynamic range, sensor response, time waveforms, envelope analysis, effects of integration.
  • Resonance & Vibration Control
    Resonance detection, identification of forcing function, minimizing effects of resonance.

     

  • Interactive Training Program
    Solve real-world case histories using live vibration data, inspections, interviews, performance ratings and data, and clues (if necessary).
