PROBLEM

Can I run Ascent with a non-administrator account? When I use a standard non-administrator Windows account I receive this error message: "Access to the registry key ..." Is there anything I can do about this?

SOLUTION - Windows Vista / Windows 7

Windows 7 and Vista operating systems include a feature called User Account Control (UAC), this is designed to prevent programs changing computer settings. However, Ascent must apply system settings during setup and licensing. Please refer to the following FAQ for details: Ascent and Windows User Account Control.

SOLUTION - Windows XP

You can run Ascent without a Windows administrator account if you make some security permission changes. However, administrator permissions are required to install Ascent the first time the license is registered (excluding dongles).

NOTE: Administrator permissions are required so you might need to ask your IT support staff to make these changes.
